Stylish, functional and ergonomically sound TV cabinets

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Much of our leisure time these days revolves around the television. We all have favourite TV programs and many of us take pride in our collections of DVDs. Some people love to spend their recreational time playing computer games, in which case they hook up a console to their TV. All of these pursuits are made that little bit better by the increased performance and technological advancement of modern televisions.

Having invested in a modern TV, you would be mad not to do everything you can to make the most of it. This includes its position in the room. Whilst some people like to mount their televisions on the wall, many find this is detrimental to their viewing pleasure.

The height at which the TV is viewed plays a huge part in our enjoyment of it. TV cabinets are designed to hold the TV at an easy viewing height so that the position we have to hold ourselves in to watch it is comfortable.

TV cabinets are also pretty exemplary bits of storage. Your DVD collection and television magazines will fit neatly into them in drawers and your TV peripherals can be stored on dedicated shelves. These bits of contemporary furniture are brilliant examples of practicality, style and ergonomics at play.

Contemporary furniture for contemporary houses

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Technology and a beautiful home don’t always go together. Whilst your modern television and music systems may add something to the appeal of certain rooms, the things they bring with them can just create a load of unsightly clutter.

DVDs and CDs are some of the main culprits. In every room in the house you seem to encounter DVD boxes and CD boxes, along with magazine and books that even on a shelf are a source of annoyance. Some people love to have all of their DVDs and CDs on display as a sort of homage to their tastes in films and music and culture in general. Nevertheless, all the different colours can seem out of keeping with your decor.

Wires and cables are another difficulty because they also create a mess in an otherwise tidy environment.

The best way of getting round this problem is to invest in contemporary furniture that is specifically designed for multimedia devices. Hi-fi cabinets and TV cabinets can effectively deal with your cable issues and CD and DVD storage cupboards keep your CDs and DVDs out of sight. You can still show off your collection as and when you like, but for the rest of the time it can stay shut away neatly.

Looking for a TV Cabinet?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Did you know, on average, people in the UK spend over 3½ hours per day watching TV?  Quite staggering when you think that most people will sleep for 8 hours, work for 8 hours and possibly spend a couple of hours a day travelling to and from the office.  Therefore, this only leaves just 6 hours for socialising, housework, meals, browsing the internet and walking the dog…  Gosh, if we do watch the TV for 3½ hours per day, then, we don’t half cram a lot into the remaining 2½ hours…

Watching TV is certainly a major pastime for most of us, and a time to relax and unwind in the comfort of our home.  In most living rooms the TV is the focal point of the room, therefore it’s only natural that we choose to give our TV pride of place, and stand it on a TV cabinet, or TV unit, unless of course you have a fancy flat screen and have this mounted on the wall.

As well as being a piece of furniture consistent with the style and décor of the room, a TV cabinet also has many functional uses.  It houses the SKY box, the DVD player, the games console and what’s more, it keeps all the wiring out of sight.  Many TV cabinets come with drawers and cupboards to store DVDs, games, cables and other accessories.

If you are looking for a TV cabinet, then we may have just the one for you…

Furnishing your living room with oak

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Oak is certainly proving to be a very popular choice for many homeowners and a favourite choice for most living rooms. The sturdy hardwearing characteristics of this hardwood make it an obvious choice for wooden flooring and creating furniture that is truly built to last. Clearly there are many different styles of oak living room furniture, with very contrasting designs, for example, take the Mobel Oak Furniture and Denver Oak Furniture collections, both of which I find appealing, in different ways.

Mobel Oak Furniture

I really like the strong contemporary furniture style of this collection. For me, its simple lines and understated appearance help to exude an air of confidence and a touch of style and sophistication to the living room. If I was to choose a car with similar characteristics, then the Mobel Oak Furniture collection is most definitely an Audi, possibly an A6.

Denver Oak Furniture

Having a more traditional and rustic furniture feel about it, the Denver Oak Furniture collection helps to create a more country cottage feeling of warmth and comfort. Continuing the car theme, I associate this sturdy and reliable oak living room furniture collection [ignoring the reference to a major American city] as the Land Rover Freelander by comparison.

Perhaps the car you drive says something about the style of furniture you choose… What do you think?

Contemporary Furniture, is it for you?

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Contemporary furniture is probably the widest and most commonly used term to describe a furniture theme, one that has often been used to depict a multitude of different styles, from the Art Deco that emerged in the 1920s, or the modern designs of the 1950s, through to the minimalist furniture trends of the 1990s. Therefore to help answer this question, I guess its only right for me to start by sharing my thoughts of how I would describe contemporary furniture.

Put simply, contemporary furniture is more about the style and shape of a furniture design than the material it is made from, or the finish and colour. Characteristics include straight lines and simple shapes, with minimal detail and an understated form. This is why contemporary furniture pieces are easy to mix and match across various collections – even different furniture styles, from modern to traditional. I therefore believe that contemporary furniture is a safe choice for many homes, particularly if you think you are likely to change the décor of your room, or add to your furniture from time to time.

If you’re fond of a clean fresh look that is likely to be in-fashion for many years, then contemporary furniture may be the style for you. By combining this with the comfortable, warming and relaxed feel of wooden furniture, then I’m sure you will be on to a winning formula.

A great example of contemporary furniture is the Mobel Oak Furniture collection, that includes a range to Oak Living Room Furniture, Oak Dining Room Furniture and Oak Home Office Furniture pieces.
