Contemporary Furniture, is it for you?

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Contemporary furniture is probably the widest and most commonly used term to describe a furniture theme, one that has often been used to depict a multitude of different styles, from the Art Deco that emerged in the 1920s, or the modern designs of the 1950s, through to the minimalist furniture trends of the 1990s. Therefore to help answer this question, I guess its only right for me to start by sharing my thoughts of how I would describe contemporary furniture.

Put simply, contemporary furniture is more about the style and shape of a furniture design than the material it is made from, or the finish and colour. Characteristics include straight lines and simple shapes, with minimal detail and an understated form. This is why contemporary furniture pieces are easy to mix and match across various collections – even different furniture styles, from modern to traditional. I therefore believe that contemporary furniture is a safe choice for many homes, particularly if you think you are likely to change the décor of your room, or add to your furniture from time to time.

If you’re fond of a clean fresh look that is likely to be in-fashion for many years, then contemporary furniture may be the style for you. By combining this with the comfortable, warming and relaxed feel of wooden furniture, then I’m sure you will be on to a winning formula.

A great example of contemporary furniture is the Mobel Oak Furniture collection, that includes a range to Oak Living Room Furniture, Oak Dining Room Furniture and Oak Home Office Furniture pieces.
